Yuvraj Singh shared his assessment of Abhishek Sharma's performance, following the youngster's impressive batting displays in IPL 2024.

Abhishek Sharma's standout performances in IPL 2024 have thrust him into the limelight, captivating audiences with his impressive strike rate and ability to clear the boundaries with ease. As the second-highest run-scorer for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season, amassing 288 runs in eight matches, the 23-year-old left-hander from Punjab has emerged as a contender for national team selection, particularly in the T20 format.

Despite his promising contributions, former cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who has closely monitored Abhishek's progress, believes that the young talent still needs further refinement before being considered for international cricket. Yuvraj emphasized that Abhishek is not yet ready for the upcoming T20 World Cup and outlined a timeline for the aspiring batsman as he continues to showcase his abilities.

"Abhishek is almost there, but I don't think he is ready for the World Cup right now," Yuvraj remarked to Cricbuzz. "For the World Cup, we need an experienced squad. While some players have already represented India, Abhishek should aim to prepare himself for international cricket after the World Cup. The next six months will be crucial for his development," Yuvraj added.

Despite opening the SRH innings alongside Travis Head, who has capitalized on his starts with notable performances, including a blistering century against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Abhishek has struggled to convert his promising starts into substantial scores. While his strike rate remains impressive, Yuvraj highlighted the importance of translating those starts into match-winning innings to strengthen his case for national team selection.

"His performance has certainly improved, and his strike rate has been phenomenal. However, he needs to score big runs consistently. With such an impressive strike rate, it's essential to register significant scores to stake a claim for a place in the Indian team. While high strike rates are commendable, consistent match-winning performances will solidify his position," Yuvraj concluded.
